"Our aim was to optimize the work processes at the research center and at the same time promote the personal responsibility and flexibility of our employees."

The Geisenheim Research Institute is one of the oldest research institutions for viticulture and horticulture in the German-speaking world. It is one of the leading institutions in the field of research into viticulture, cellar management, beverage technology and horticulture.
Flexible working hours were introduced for around 350 employees at the end of 2005. "We were pursuing several goals with this decision," explains Head of Department Sabine Muth. "We wanted to optimize work processes at the research center and at the same time promote the personal responsibility and flexibility of our employees. After all, flexible working hours help to intensify team processes and increase employee motivation."
High demands were placed on the implementation of the project: The aim was to operate the time recording software centrally on a terminal server, the terminals to be installed were to be connected via an existing network so that every employee could clock in at every terminal. Another requirement was that the time recording system should be multi-client capable, i.e. time recording and data processing should be password-protected and decentralized in the individual departments, but without granting them access to other departments or projects. Software updates should be carried out centrally and administration users (assignment of rights and passwords) should be managed at client level.
The Geisenheim Research Institute found a suitable partner for the implementation in the market leader for secure chip card readers for multifunctional applications and manufacturer of innovative time recording systems REINER SCT from Furtwangen. "The expertise and flexibility of the employees and the excellent price-performance ratio of the timeCard time recording system finally convinced us," says Sabine Muth, explaining the decision.
With timeCard, REINER SCT has developed a time recording system that is consistently geared towards the needs of small and medium-sized companies. It offers all the functions expected of a professional time recording system. The timeCard premium plus package was selected for the Geisenheim Research Institute.
"Thanks to the simple operation and the excellent support service from REINER SCT, the employees get on very well with the technology."

Thanks to its network capability, the package can be integrated into the existing infrastructure in just a few simple steps. Additional functions, such as the annual calendar or project management, offer a high degree of evaluation options for company processes.
The first installation work began in July 2006 and the last two of a total of 26 terminals were installed in July 2007. "The main challenge with the installation and networking was that the individual departments on the site are far apart. But we successfully overcame this hurdle too," recalls Muth.
The time recording system has now been in operation at the research institute for over a year and is proving very popular with the workforce. Working times are stamped contactlessly by holding a transponder in front of the employee. If the proposed booking is not correct, a different type of booking can be made by simply pressing the "clock in" or "clock out" button.
Not only the start and end of a working day are recorded, but also snack, smoking and lunch breaks, including reasons for absence such as flexitime, vacation, training or sick days can be freely defined. On the PC, timeCard then provides a detailed overview of the respective working time accounts with just a few mouse clicks, eliminating the need for time-consuming working time controlling. The individual departments do not have to worry about ongoing software updates themselves, as these are carried out centrally via the system administration.
"The administrators are very satisfied with the systems," says Sabine Muth "Thanks to the simple operation and the excellent support service from REINER SCT, the employees are getting on very well with the technology."
