REINER SCT Case Study: Schwevers Stahlhochbau (Schwevers & Raab)
"... we were not only looking for an excellent system, but also for first-class service."
Gert Schmetter,
Head of IT, SCHWEVERS & RAAB Stahl - Hochbau GmbH
8,500,000 square meters of built hall space are a reference for the experience of SCHWEVERS & RAAB Stahl - Hochbau GmbH (S&R) in cost and quality-conscious hall construction. The steel construction expert's product range extends from standard halls to turnkey commercial buildings.
Before SCHWEVERS & RAAB wasCard was installed, time recording and access control had also been carried out using an electronic system for 10 years. However, because the availability of spare parts and upgrades no longer met expectations, the steel construction expert turned to the system house Straelener Computer Systeme GmbH (SCS) for advice on alternatives. "Based on our experience with our previous time recording and access control system, we were not only looking for an excellent system, but also for first-class service," reports IT Manager Gert Schmetter.
SCS recommended the time recording system timeCard premium plus DES with integrated access control from REINER SCT, which is completely geared to the needs of small and medium-sized companies and offers the customer a free support service. timeCard has clearly structured software that is equally suitable for beginners and professionals and has a clear screen display. It is also possible to check whether a new update is available on the Internet at the click of a mouse. S&R was able to test the software using a demo CD. After three weeks, the management and the IT department were convinced: timeCard will replace the old system. The ordering process via Straelener Computer Systeme went smoothly and the installation took
just one day. Time recording and access control with a chip card Since then, the times of the 35 employees have been recorded using a multi-terminal at the main entrance. RFID chip cards - which are held in front of the terminal - are used to record not only the start and end of the working day but also all breaks and absences such as flexitime, vacation, training or sick days electronically and to the minute
.
"The system is light and uncomplicated, yet safe and reliable."
Gert Schmetter,
Head of IT, SCHWEVERS & RAAB Stahl - Hochbau GmbH
An external RFID reader is also attached to the outer wall of the entrance, which allows authorized persons access as soon as they hold their chip card, which is also used for time recording, in front of the reader. This enables SCHWEVERS & RAAB to have a main entrance without a gatekeeper. Thanks to the Mifare DESFire technology contained in the cards, the electronic key and the reader can communicate contactlessly. The data is transmitted in encrypted form so that it cannot be read and misused by third parties. Employees are protected by the timecard access control means that employees are only authorized to enter at certain times. Unlike traditional metal keys, the electronic key cannot be used to open the door at night, for example. If a card is lost, it can be blocked immediately at the click of a mouse.
With the introduction of timeCard premium plus DES a year ago, all employees were given a brief introduction to the operation of the system and informed about the new access times. Since the beginning, administration has been carried out by two people from the IT department. They immediately got to grips with the easy-to-understand software, even without training. If problems did occur, the competent support team from REINER SCT helped quickly and easily. Once the two IT specialists had entered all the personnel in the time recording system, the data was immediately available to them for access control, as a central database is used for this purpose. For Mr. Schmetter, the choice of timeCard was a logical decision: "The system is easy and uncomplicated, yet secure and reliable. And the service is great too."
