Furtwangen, January 04, 2011 – During the introduction of the new electronic ID card (nPA), there were doubts as to whether the simple basic readers would meet the high security requirements.
By entering the PIN via the keyboard of the home computer, confidential data can be read from the ID card on inadequately secured computers.
Consumer protection advises that only standard and comfort readers with an external keyboard should be used and recommends readers certified by the BSI.
With the cyber Jack ® RFID standard from REINER SCT, a reader with a PC-independent keyboard (16 keys) and its own display was certified for the first time at the end of December 2010.
This allows the nPA to be used securely.
The card PIN is transmitted directly from the device to the card and cannot be intercepted by malware on the PC.
Thanks to dual technology, the device can handle both contactless RFID cards (nPA, cash card and eTickets) and those with a contact chip (such as for online banking via HBCI/FinTS, Secoder and EBICS).
The standard reader will be available in larger quantities from the end of January 2011.
The standard readers will be offered at a reduced price of EUR 37.90 in the REINER SCT online store (www.chipkartenleser-shop.de/shop/npa) thanks to the government subsidy of EUR 25. (The text comprises approx. 2,600 characters)
