Furtwangen, January 25, 2011 – Systematic time recording is widespread among German SMEs.
According to a representative study by REINER SCT and Furtwangen University, around 70 percent of companies record the working hours of their employees.
Of these, 37 percent rely on electronic systems.
The rest record employee data in Excel spreadsheets, by hand or from a central location, such as the HR department or management.
Around a third of respondents cite high acquisition costs as a reason for not using an electronic system.
In addition, 18 percent fear that accurate recording could demotivate employees.
However, if the time recording system demonstrably reduces the administrative workload, 29 percent consider purchasing it; the same applies if actual and target working times differ greatly.
A fifth of the study participants without an electronic system are simply waiting for an attractive offer.
As the user survey shows (see Press Service 12/2010), current systems already meet a large proportion of the requirements mentioned above.
This is because users cited time and cost savings combined with improved data quality as the most significant advantages.
Contrary to the fear that accurate recording via an electronic system could reduce employee motivation, four percent of users explicitly emphasized that the opposite had occurred in their company.
Information on the study
650 companies from various sectors were surveyed on the subject of time recording.
Only five percent of the medium-sized companies surveyed had more than 500 employees.
The study was conducted between May 5, 2010 and June 10, 2010 by Furtwangen University on behalf of REINER SCT.
This is the fourth edition of the press service on time recording in medium-sized companies.
REINER SCT will be presenting the results of the time recording study every month for six months.
The following topics are covered: 10/2010: Why do companies use time recording systems?
