What does phising mean?
Phising is a mixture of the English terms “fishing” and “password harvesting”. It is symbolic of casting a line and waiting for a victim to bite. The aim is to steal personal information, preferably anonymously.
Criminals can use phishing emails to gain access to important data with little effort and at low cost. Victims of phishing can expect malware infections or identity theft as a result.
Why do criminals engage in phishing?
Phishing emails can be used to intercept personal information, credit card numbers, social media accounts or sensitive business data in general. One target is access to connected systems such as order processing systems or cash register terminals. These can then be changed or compromised. It is therefore possible to gain access to a company network with a seemingly harmless email.
