What are push notifications?
Push messages are basically just notifications sent to users of certain apps. These messages usually consist of short text modules and are displayed as an overlay on the smartphone. The notifications could theoretically be sent by the app developer to its users at any time.
Why should I use push messages?
In principle, push messages should provide added value for the user. Most prompts are either occasion-based or location-based. This allows the developer to get in direct contact with the app users.
How do push messages work?
Three essential points are necessary for the function:
- A sender, usually a server, that creates the messages
- The push message service which serves as an intermediary
- The user’s end device, i.e. the smartphone
Push notifications are simple. When you log in to a service, a message is sent to a mobile or desktop device.
Advantages of push notifications:
- Based on the latest security procedures (uses encrypted end-to-end communication between the application and an authentication service)
- Approve / reject possible without codes
Advantages of push notifications:
- Requires internet connection
- Current smartphone required, as app with security requirements must be downloaded from the app store
