How to protect yourself from phishing
Back up your computer
Protect your PC against malicious software with a virus scanner (daily update!), personal firewall etc. and only use up-to-date software from reliable sources.
Do not respond to phishing emails
Ignore e-mails that ask you to enter confidential data. No reputable service sends such e-mails. Only enter log-in data on websites that are encrypted. You can recognize this by the “https://” in front of the Internet address and by the green color of the address line in the Internet browser.
Careful handling of the online account
Have your online account blocked immediately if the connection to your bank is interrupted. No matter how real the displayed screen looks.
Switch to HBCI and card readers
More convenient and highly secure: HBCI with chip card. Phishers don’t stand a chance – thanks to external PIN entry, high encryption and electronic signatures. Simply have your account activated by your bank or savings bank.
